Women deliver the majority of healthcare, making up 90% of nurses and 70% of healthcare employees overall. Recent research has also shown that they make decisions in a more equitable fashion to both better serve patients and foster more inclusive working environments. These decision-making behaviours include a higher affinity for collaboration, being more empathetic, and showing a higher awareness for challenges faced by others.
However, women hold only 25% of senior and 5% of top healthcare positions globally. Additionally, while there is growing public awareness of health equity as a topic of concern as global inequities rise, research has been largely focused on North America, Europe and Africa. This has significant implications for how health equity in patient care is addressed in other health system decisions, especially in Asia.
In this 1-day conference, we bring thought leaders across a variety of healthcare sectors in Asia together to jointly discuss emerging themes related to fostering the representation of women in leadership, enabling equitable decision-making, and providing better healthcare for all patients.
